Map Layer/Map Legend Toggle Toggles between the list of map layers and the map legend on the left side of the screen.
•  Layers: Click the checkbox beside a layer to display it. After you click new layers, click Refresh Map to see the changes.
•  Legend: The legend is dynamic. It lists the features contained in the layers that are check-marked in the layer list.
Overview Map Toggle Turns on and off an overview map that shows the extent of the current map displayed on the map of Vassar.
Zoom In Zooms in to an area that is centered on a point or a box. Click this tool. Then on the map, click a point. Or, define a box by clicking one point and dragging the mouse to the opposite corner of the desired box.
Zoom Out Zooms out to an area that is centered on a point or a box. Click this tool. Then on the map, click a point. Or, define a box (as for Zoom In above).
Zoom to Full Extent Displays the entire city in the map display. Click this tool and then click on the map.
Zoom to Active Layer Displays the extent of the current active layer. Click this tool and then click on the map.
Pan Centers the map on a location that you choose by clicking on a location. Click this tool and then click on the map.
Identify Displays attribute information of selected features in the text frame to the right. Click this tool and then click on the map.
Query Allows you to create a query for selecting features from a specified layer. Click this tool and then fill in the query form.
Measure Measures a line placed on the map when you click two or more positions on the map display. Measurement units are feet. Click this tool and then click the two positions on the map.
Buffer Creates a buffer (a round highlighted area) within a specified distance from a selected feature. The specified features that are all or partly within the buffer are highlighted. For example, you can determine which parcels are within 100 feet of a selected parcel. Select a parcel first. Then click this tool and follow the instructions on the screen. To see the whole buffer area, you may need to zoom out.
Select by Rectangle Allows you to select features by drawing a box on the map. Features that are all or partly within the box are selected. Click this tool. Then on the map, click one point and drag the mouse to the opposite corner of the desired box.
Clear Selection Clears the map of any highlighting on selected features. Also clears all segments that were drawn using the Measure tool.
Print Displays a message that asks you to specify the title for the page you will print. Click this tool. Then input the title and press Create Page. In the map output window, click print_1.gif (897 bytes) to send the page to your default printer.
Floodplain Analysis Determines whether a selected parcel is within a floodway or a floodplain. First use Find or Query and select a parcel. Then, with the parcel selected, click this tool to display any intersecting floodways or floodplains.
